Postman & MailGuard Exam pattern
The paper is an objective type examination which has the following three parts

(1) Part A- General Knowledge
(2) Part B- Mathematics
(3) Part C- English & Odia Language

Exam Total Time Given: 2 Hours
Exam Total marks: 100 Marks
Exam Syllabus

Part A (General knowledge)- Current affairs, History of India, Geographical news and events,Indian important events, Sports events and news, Freedom Struggle, Constitution of India,Current news about India and World, General topics questions based on everyday observations,Political Questions

Part B (Mathematics)- Averages, Percentages, ratios & proportions, profit & loss, Simple &Compound Interest, Graphs & tables, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Whole numbers, Decimals & fractions, Number system, Probability, Permutation & combination, Statistics

Part C- it consist of the following two sections-

(1)  English Language: To test the candidates’ English skills the questions will be   based on articles, prepositions, verbs, synonyms, antonyms, sentence comprehension, tenses, voice,vocabulary based direct questions, comprehension passages etc.

(2)  Odia Language- The questions are asked to test that the candidates can comprehend, read and understand their regional language. The syllabus include- Shabda pada, kriya Bheda, Mishra o Sanyukta Vakya, Vakya Rupantara, Swara Sandhi, Samasa, padhinathiba Gandyansha


PLEASE NOTE: There is no negative marking in the exam and so the candidates can freely attempt all the questions

Career Prospects of Postal Assistants / Sorting Assistants In Department of Posts

1. Eligible to be promoted to MACP-1 with grade pay Rs.2800/- and MACP-II with grade pay Rs.4200/- and MACP-III with grade pay of Rs.4600/- on completion of 10, 20 and 30 years of service respectively as per Modified Assured Career Progression scheme.

2.  Eligible to appear for Postmaster Gr.1 examination on completion of 5 years of service. On passing  the above examination they will be appointed as Postmaster (Gr.1) and thereafter will be promoted to the cadre of Postmaster, Gr.II,Gr.III according to eligibility.  PM Gr. 1 officials can not appear for  Sr. postmaster Examination for the time being. PM Gr.III officials with 2 years service are eligible to be promoted to the post of Sr. postmaster under 25% quota . Depending upon their performance and eligibility , they can be appointed as Chief Postmaster(Gr.A) in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Calcutta etc.

3. Eligible to be  promoted to the Supervisory cadre of  LSG (Lower Selection Grade) norm based posts with grade pay of Rs. 2800/- and thereafter to the cadre of HSG-II (Higher Selection Grade) with grade pay of Rs.4200/- and subsequently to  the cadre of  HSG-I with grade pay of Rs.4600/- respectively on completion of requisite period of satisfactory service.

4. Postal Assistants promoted to the LSG Supervisory cadre  on completing 5 years of satisfactory service will be eligible to appear for limited departmental competitive examination for selection as Superintendent Postal Service group B directly  and on passing the above examination they could be posted as Head of Postal/RMS Divisions in the cadre of Superintendent and Assistant Director in postal Administrative wings such as Regional, Circle offices and Postal Directorate New Delhi as the case may be.

Odisha Postal Circle issued a notification  No. RE/30-22/2013 in local newspapers “The Sambad and Times of India” on 22.08.2014 for Direct Recruitment of Postman/ Mail Guard and on 29.08.2014 for Direct Recruitment of MTS. The admit cards of the eligible applicants for the above examinations will be displayed in website (http://odisha.postalcareers.in) form 15.10.2014. The candidates appearing in the examination are hereby intimated that the above examinations in Odisha Postal Circle are being held on Sunday, 19.10.2014 in two sittings(10AM to 12Noon and 2.30PM to 4.30PM). The candidates are requested for downloading their admit cards by accessing the above website with their given Registration number and password. The admit cards are not sent by Post.

Indian rights activist Kailash Satyarthi and Pakistan's 'Heroic' teen activist Malala Yusafzai have together been awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for 2014.

Kailash Satyarthi, an Indian children's rights activist, was on Friday awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014. Satyarthi won the prize along with Pakistan's Malala Yousafzay.

"The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014 is to be awarded to Kailash Satyarthiand Malala Yousafzay for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education," said the official press release.
